Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ), American Express Company (AXP): Dow (.DJI) Continues to Slide, With Little Help to Recover

American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) is also continuing to enjoy its earnings win this morning, with its report yesterday featuring an earnings beat and a revenue miss. Investors are rewarding the company, with the stock gaining another 1.54% today. AmEx’s earnings rose 2% in the first quarter thanks to a 7% rise in consumer spending.

Now here’s the confusing part. Bank of America Corp (NYSE:BAC) beat earnings estimates yesterday, with profits that quadrupled — but the bank was punished (and continues to be) for a revenue miss. Down another 3.5% this morning, ank of America Corp (NYSE:BAC) continues to slide even after showing continued improvement in its operations that resulted in astounding earnings growth. If investors flee on that news, there’s little hope that the bank will gain in the market.
