Top 6 Things to Buy in March

We are now in the throes of winter, but March and the first stages of spring will be on us before we know it (let’s hope), and as such, we’re getting you prepared with a shopping list of things to buy in March. That’s because one of the best tricks you can use to save a couple of bucks here and there is by shopping for particular items during specific times of the year, and March and early spring is a big one.

You probably expect the list to be filled with soon-to-be-useless (for another eight months or so at least) winter products like snowblowers that stores will soon discount to try to move while they still have a glimmer of hope of doing so, but don’t worry; our list is focused on useful year-round items that are particularly well-suited to being purchased in March, for various reasons. March is also a prime month for many people to get out and start spending again, as they begin to dig out from under the deluge of purchases added to their credit cards leading up to Christmas.

In that vein, if you’re looking to go spending some money in the near future, whether on the things to buy in March, as listed on our forthcoming list, or on other goods entirely, be sure to check out our fascinating list of The 10 Biggest Outlet Malls in USA. You may be shocked to see just how humongous some of these titans of commercialization can be, and just how many stores and products they can hold. They are almost attractions in and of themselves.

Before you head out though, let’s check out our list of the things to buy in March, so you remember to set aside just enough money to pick up some of these great deals while you have the chance.

No. 6: Cookware and Accessories

For some obscure reason, cookware items tend to go on sale during spring months. According to Bankrate, this happens because they are mostly bought as graduation gifts, which stores make a point of discounting before the end of the school year. So, even if you don’t have any future graduates you would like to gift a cooking pot to (as if they’ll ever use it), you can still take advantage of this very interesting sale yourself.

No. 5: Cruises and Other Holidays

Aside from Spring Break for students, March is not your typical tourist season, so if you can get the time off work, you should really consider going on a holiday during time of the year. Cruises in particular tend to be a lot less costly during spring months, so book your perfect getaway today. If cruises are not exactly your cup of tea, there are a lot of other cheap holidays you can plan for in the spring.

No. 4: Vacuum Cleaners

In the US, new models of vacuum cleaners are put on the market in the beginning of summer, meaning that you can still score a few deals until June. Prices will be low for the 2014 models, however not as low as they typically would be on Black Friday.

No. 3: Thrift Items

Since spring is traditionally cleaning time for most households across the US, you’re going to start to see a lot of garage sales popping up. In addition, thrift shops will also replenish their stock during this season, so you might be able to score quite a few bargains. Also, if you want to make a few bucks yourself, it might be a great idea to organize your own yard sale and sell your own thrift items for others to take advantage of.

No. 2: Real Estate

Even though, traditionally, winter is the best time of the year to go house hunting, spring does offer its own advantages. Prices are not necessarily as low as they were last winter, but you will have a wider selection of homes to choose from.

No. 1: Japanese Electronics

Japan’s fiscal year ended in March, which means that a ton of electronics manufactured in the country (which luckily for us means nearly all electronics on the market) have been put up for sale, so as to sell old stock. If you couldn’t buy your dream TV set or home cinema during Black Friday, this might be the perfect occasion for you to purchase your desired electronics at a discounted price; assuming you are comfortable with buying 2014 models, at least (and there’s no reason not to be). Manufacturers to look out for are Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, Sharp, and NEC.
