The top universities to work for are a motley bunch. There are dozens of rankings that evaluate university in terms of quality of education or other indicators pertaining to academic results. But very few of them analyze a university as a workplace. We would like to present you with a list we have compiled of the top 25 universities to work for in the US. If you are look for a career in the academic field, this is the list for you.
The universities were ranked according to the ranking they received on Glassdoor.com, an online community where employees share insight about their place of work. Hundreds of schools were evaluated for a period of 12 months and only universities that received more than 25 reviews were included in the analysis. Respondents were asked to evaluate their employers. The maximum score for a university was 5, which equals to “very satisfying” and the lowest 1 (“very dissatisfying”).
Texas is leader in terms of universities to work for. Six out of the top 25 universities to work for are located in the Lone Star State. In fact, our number one spot is held by Texas Tech University, which received a 4.4 rating. Employees at Texas Tech praised the appealing campus, the IT infrastructure and the overall supporting staff.
Carnegie Mellon came a close second, with a 4.3 rating. Employees here valued the location of the university, the stimulating work environment, the emphasis put on professional development, and the numerous opportunities for collaboration.
Brigham Young University, which also received a 4.3 rating, wraps up our top three universities to work for in the US. Employees here valued the strong work policy, the integrity of the staff, the campus culture, and the balance between personal life and work life.
