Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) CEO Details Qualms About Flying Cars

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s founder and CEO Elon Musk may have been reported in the past to be against flying cars but he is now setting the record straight.

In a series of tweets posted today, the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) leader and visionary said that he is not actually against flying cars. He just has worries about the whole concept.

“Contrary to press reports, I’m not against flying cars. [I] just said it was important to consider both pros and cons,” Musk tweeted.

He said that the pros of a flying car is traveling in three dimensions fast. However, the cons, he said, included a “much greater risk” of cars falling on people’s heads. Furthermore, flying cars will be noisy, he said. Imagine a lot of those things whirring overhead?

Another con of flying cars, the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO said, is that they are grounded in bad weather.

Musk has suggested the Hyperloop, a high-speed transport system that uses pressurized tunnels and tubes travelling through these tunnels to transport people and things.

According to Musk, all the cons of the flying car are negated by travelling in tunnels. People also travel fast in three dimensions while the system they are using is immune to weather, is quiet and does not increase the risk of cars falling on people’s heads.

Nonetheless, this does not mean that people should not try to keep improving technology for flying cars, the entrepreneur said.

“[The] right move is try both tunnels and flying cars. Otherwise, having 2D streets and 3D buildings means bad traffic forever,” Musk tweeted.
