Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA), And Comparisons With The Model T

The Volt is priced competitively to the Focus electric. But General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) may have the head start on Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) with a Cadillac electric vehicle coming soon, which should definitely appeal to those with the wherewithal to buy a Model S.

Toyota Motor Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:TM) has stepped aside to see how it shakes out. It is only making one fully electric car, its RAV4, in cooperation with Tesla. Its hybrid Prius is doing so well it can afford (temporarily) to stay out of the fray.

The Foolish driveaway

While Tesla has first mover advantage the challenge remains getting that Gen III car for the common man available before Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), or Toyota Motor Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:TM) with their economies of scale make their own versions of an electric Model T. The infrastructure is falling into place and demand is there. Tesla just needs to ratchet up production and cut the price.
