In this article, we will take a look at the percentage of bald males by country and list the 20 least bald countries in the world.

Hair loss, known as alopecia, can manifest either on your scalp or across your entire body, and it may vary in duration from temporary to permanent. Shedding between 80 to 150 hair strands daily is completely normal. However, it’s important to understand that balding isn’t primarily caused by hair shedding but rather by gradually weakening and thinning hair follicles until they eventually cease producing hair.

The term “baldness” generally pertains to the significant loss of hair from the scalp, often stemming from hereditary factors and the aging process. Individuals facing hair loss have various choices: some may opt to embrace it without intervention, while others may utilize hairstyles, cosmetics, hats, or scarves to conceal it. Alternatively, some individuals explore available treatments to either prevent further hair loss or stimulate regrowth.

The prospect of baldness is a common occurrence that many men may encounter at some stage in their lives. There are a lot of potential causes of hair loss, and while it predominantly affects men, it can occur in individuals of any gender. Genetics, which is closely linked to one’s ethnicity, stands as the principal factor behind baldness, with those having a family history of baldness being more prone to experiencing it themselves. Additionally, hormonal fluctuations can be a contributing factor to hair loss, with stress being one possible trigger. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the prevalence of male balding varies from one country to another, with certain regions experiencing higher rates than others.

In our article on the 20 Countries with Highest Rates of Hair Loss, we highlighted that baldness affects nearly half of all men, and it is most prevalent in the Czech Republic, where 42.7% of men experience it. Spain closely follows as the second-highest country, with 42.6% of men facing baldness. Germany ranks next with 41.2% of men losing their hair, followed by France at 39.24%. The United Kingdom comes in fifth place, with a very close 39.23% of adult males experiencing baldness.

The United States also exhibits a relatively high percentage of its male population experiencing hair loss. In the U.S., approximately 39% of men have either already lost their hair or are currently in the process of doing so. Hair loss in the United States can be attributed to various factors, including hereditary causes as well as certain medical conditions that make individuals more prone to hair loss.

Among ethnicities, Asians are the least prone to experiencing baldness. The factors influencing male baldness in Asian countries are similar to those seen in other parts of the world. The reduced susceptibility to balding in Asia is attributed to the characteristic thickness, coarseness, and slower growth of Asian hair, all of which contribute to a lower likelihood of hair loss.

People of East Asian heritage, particularly Japanese and Chinese, encounter hair loss at some of the lowest rates globally and typically commence experiencing it later in life compared to other regions. Those who do experience hair loss usually initiate this process in their 40s and 50s, as opposed to their 20s and 30s. The lower incidence of baldness among East Asians, especially when compared to those closer to the Mediterranean region, appears to be more than coincidental. Interestingly, the rate of baldness in this population can vary, ranging from around 20% to the low 30s, still representing a noteworthy portion of the population.

Our Methodology

To determine our list of the top 20 countries with the lowest rates of baldness, we conducted an extensive analysis of available data, together with the results of an independent study conducted by the Canadian Association for Physical Anthropologists. Since Asian countries generally demonstrate a lower incidence of male pattern baldness, our research began by identifying all Asian countries mentioned in our sources and collecting data on their respective rates of baldness. After careful examination and assessment of this data, we compiled our list of the 20 countries with the lowest prevalence of baldness.

18. Myanmar

Percentage of Bald Men: 21%

Ranking 18th in our list of the 20 least bald countries is Myanmar, the most expansive country in Mainland Southeast Asia, housed a population of roughly 54 million in the year 2017. It shares its borders with Bangladesh and India to the northwest, China to the northeast, Laos, and Thailand to the east and southeast, and is bounded by the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal to the south and southwest. Genetic studies conducted on Myanmar have revealed that the distribution of haplogroups in Myanmar follows a characteristic Southeast Asian pattern, while also showing influences from Northeast Asia and India.

17. Mongolia

Percentage of Bald Men: 20.2%

Mongolia is situated in the heart of eastern Asia, nestled between Russia to the north and China to the south, far removed from any ocean. The nation experiences a distinctive continental climate, characterized by extended frigid winters and brief, temperate to scorching summers. Its diverse landscape primarily comprises elevated steppes, semidesert expanses, and deserts, although, in the western and northern regions, forested mountain ranges intermingle with basin areas adorned with numerous lakes.

16. Nepal

Percentage of Bald Men: 20.5%

Nepal ranks 16th in our list of the 20 least bald countries in the world. Nepal is an Asian nation situated on the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain ranges. It is a landlocked country that shares borders with India to the east, south, and west, while the Tibet Autonomous Region of China lies to the north. The Himalayan mountain range in Nepal has acted as a natural obstacle to population movement, yet its valleys have simultaneously functioned as conduits for trade and interaction. Studies have revealed that the majority of Nepali populations can trace their maternal ancestry back to lowland populations rather than highlanders.

15. Kyrgyzstan

Percentage of Bald Men: 20.1%

Kyrgyzstan is a Central Asian nation situated to the northwest and north of Kazakhstan and to the east and south of China. Kyrgyzstan’s considerable distance from the coastlines and the abrupt shifts in elevation from the neighboring plains exert a significant influence on the nation’s climate. The Kyrgyz people are an indigenous Turkic ethnic group originating from Central Asia. The genetic composition of the Kyrgyz population reflects their heritage as a blend of various tribal groups.

14. Cambodia

Percentage of Bald Men: 20%

Cambodia, situated on the mainland of Southeast Asia known as Indochina, is characterized by its vast plains and intricate river networks. It occupies a strategic position within the network of overland and river trade routes connecting China to both India and Southeast Asia.

13. Vietnam

Percentage of Bald Men: 19.5%

Vietnam ranks 13th in our list of the least bald countries in the world. Vietnam is a nation situated in the eastern part of mainland Southeast Asia. Its extensive coastline runs along the South China Sea to the east and south, the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, and borders Cambodia and Laos to the west. Vietnam boasts significant cultural and linguistic variety, although the genetic history of its population remains relatively unclear. Broadly speaking, Vietnam’s genetic makeup seems to have been predominantly shaped by two key factors. The first factor involves isolation and genetic drift, which have resulted in notable genetic distinctions between various groups and varying levels of genetic diversity within these groups. The second factor involves limited recent interactions among certain groups, resulting in shared genetic traits or haplotypes in some cases.

12. Indonesia

Percentage of Bald Men: 19%

Indonesia, ranked as the fourth most populous nation globally and boasting the status of the third-largest democracy, is home to the largest archipelago. This nation stretches across an expanse that spans from the Indian Ocean to the China Sea, effectively straddling critical sea routes within the Southeast Asian region.
