Muammar Gaddafi’s Gold Piggy Bank

Muammar Gaddafi has been selling Libya’s gold reserves.

Officials from the Libya interim government said on Thursday that its central bank sold 29 tonnes of gold in April or May this year in order to help pay salaries. The gold was sold in Dinars to merchants within the country. The transaction was taken place when the central bank was under the control of Muammar Gaddafi’s administration. The new rulers of Libya seized Tripoli about two weeks ago, and they have taken charge of the central bank since then.
