Even if you have been looking forward to the release of the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One, you cannot deny the fact that the Xbox 360 has done big things for the company. We took a closer look at this story a couple days ago, showing why this gaming console is truly one of the best of all time.

With all this in mind, the Microsoft Xbox 360 is not necessarily the top selling gaming console in every part of the world. After all, the system has stiff competition from the likes of Sony as well as the Nintendo Wii.

According to a recent report by MCV, Xbox 360 has overtaken the Nintendo Wii as the number one gaming console in the United Kingdom. This is a big win for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), especially as the company continues to push ahead as it waits for the release of Xbox One in November.

According to GfK Chart-Track, “Microsoft’s platform will overtake Wii in a matter of days.”

There is no denying the fact that this is big news, however, it is something most people saw coming for quite some time. After all, the Xbox 360 has been a top seller in the UK, as well as other markets around the world, for a long time.

Harvey Eagle, Director of Xbox and entertainment for Microsoft, spoke with MCV. Here is what he had to say:

“This is an historic milestone and our sincere thanks goes to each and every person that has bought and enjoyed Xbox 360 over the past eight years. As you saw at E3 earlier this month, we announced a new Xbox 360 form factor and we are committed to ensuring Xbox 360 remains the best place to play games, connect with friends and enjoy your entertainment. You’ll see great exclusive content coming not only to Xbox 360, but also to Xbox One later this year.”

It is easy to see that Eagle is excited about this news. After all, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has put a lot of time, money and energy into the success of Xbox 360.

It will be interesting to see if Xbox One is able to live up to the hype. While many are excited about what this new gaming console is going to bring to market, others are worried it will never be able to fill the shoes of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox 360.
