Panos Panay Microsoft: Microsoft Demand Update, Info from Panos Panay

Panos Panay Microsoft: Yesterday, we brought you a news update surrounding the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Surface Pro supply shortage. While this was definitely a major problem for consumers, especially those who went home empty handed, all is not bad for the new device.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)Despite poor reviews leading up to the release of the Surface Pro tablet, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is happy with how things are progressing.

An article published by ABC News quotes the company as saying:

“We are pleased that the demand for the Surface Pro is so great. Our focus is to get ordered Surface units delivered to our customers as quickly as possible.”

Perhaps some of the poor reviews were related to less than stellar sales numbers associated with the previously released Surface RT tablet. Analysts have estimated that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) sold approximately one million of these tablets during the fourth quarter of 2012. This is in contrast to the popular Apple iPad which sold three million units in its first weekend.

The question is: will sales be strong for the new Surface Pro? It all depends on who and what you believe.

Panos Panay, the General Manager of Microsoft Surface, thinks that big things are coming. Here is what he had to say in a phone interview with ABC News:

“We are focused on the professional segment and the road warrior. The Pro is targeted at the professional road warrior who’s moving and traveling and cannot compromise performance whatsoever.”

Is it possible that he is implying that the Surface Pro does not compromise performance where other tablets fall short? He makes note that the Surface Pro should be viewed by consumers as more of a laptop and less as a tablet.

He added:

“The focus really was to bring to bear a great PC that can be used for everything you want it to as a professional and when you want to transform it to a tablet you have that.”

It appears that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is sold on the fact that the Surface Pro is moving in the right direction.

What are your thoughts? Are you going to give this device a try?
