Ken Griffin’s Latest Move Involves Colony Financial Inc (CLNY) REIT

Ken Griffin‘s Citadel Investment Group revealed, in a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, ownership of 3.87 million shares of Colony Financial Inc (NYSE:CLNY). The position is passive by nature and amasses 5.0% of the company’s common stock. The holding has been raised from 1.86 million shares owned by Citadel according to its latest 13F filing.

Colony Financial Inc (NYSE:CLNY) is a real estate investment trust with a focus on managing a portfolio of real estate-related debt and equity investments. Last month, the company’s board declared a cash dividend worth $0.35 per common share, that will be paid to stockholders of record on December 31, 2013. In the third quarter of last year, Colony Financial posted a net income attributable to stockholders of $21.1 million, equal to $0.32 per share, double from some $10.5 million reported in the same period of last year.

Aside from Citadel, EJF Capital also has recently raised its exposure to Colony Financial Inc (NYSE:CLNY) to around 4.19 million shares, from some 3.04 million held at the end of September 2013.

Several other hedge funds, out of those we track at Insider Monkey, reported ownership of Colony Financial Inc (NYSE:CLNY) shares. At the end of September, Paulson & CoJohn Paulson, managed by , held a $25.83 million stake, which contains 25.0 million shares. Steven Cohen‘s Sac Capital Advisors reported, in its latest 13F, owning 2.83 million shares, worth $56.58 million.

In a couple of recent moves, Citadel reported raising its stake in Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:MPWR) to a total of 1.93 million shares, from 1.70 million. The fund also revealed owning 7.7% of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (NYSE:AMC), the stake amassing 1.6 million shares, up from 936,000 shares held earlier.
