Jim Cramer Calls Kailera Therapeutics (KLRA) “The Most Speculative Stock On Earth”

During the lightning round of the September 10 episode of Mad Money, a caller asked if Kailera Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:KLRA) is a buy, sell, or hold. In response, Jim Cramer said:

Okay, I actually know this, but okay, here’s the problem. Let’s say I say buy it. It’s just the most speculative stock on Earth. Let’s say I don’t say buy it, and they do have finally a hit. I have seen, I’m not going to mention an individual stock, I have seen one-hit wonders that’ll take a stock up quadruple. So, I’m going to tell you it’s your spec. Don’t pick another spec, but it’s your spec, and I’m going to bless that.

Promising Weight-Loss Pipeline and Strong Financial Backing

Kailera Therapeutics, Inc. features an advanced metabolic pipeline licensed from Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals, supported by its lead weight-loss candidate moving through global Phase 3 trials. Its lead candidate, ribupatide injection, is now in global Phase 3 trials after Hengrui’s Phase 3 study in China showed mean weight loss of up to 19.2% with no observed plateau. In addition, the company has a strong liquidity position to support its broad clinical ambitions. As of June 30, 2026, Kailera had cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities of $1.17 billion, which is expected to fund operations into mid-2028.

High Cash Burn and Intense Competition

As a clinical-stage biotech company generating zero commercial product sales, Kailera Therapeutics, Inc. faces heavy financial burn as research and development costs mount across multiple trials. The company is also in a crowded obesity treatment market dominated by massive, well-established pharmaceutical giants like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. Any unexpected clinical trial delays or safety setbacks could quickly impair the stock’s long-term valuation.

Smart Money Footprint and Short Interest Dynamics

According to Insider Monkey data, 22 hedge funds had a stake in the company in the second quarter. Short interest of float sits at 4.37%, highlighting a moderate level of caution. While Kailera Therapeutics, Inc. represents a high-risk speculative vehicle requiring considerable patience, its substantial cash cushion and promising drug pipeline leave the door open for substantial upside if its clinical milestones succeed.
