Samsung Innovation Strategy: Is Samsung Beating Apple in the Innovation Department?

Samsung Innovation Strategy: Nobody can argue with the fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was first to the party when it comes to smart mobile devices. But does this mean that the Cupertino-based company is still leading the way?

As you know, many other companies have jumped into the mobile device industry over the past few years. Some have competed with Apple better than others, most notably, Samsung.

A Leading Company Cheaper Than 90% Of Blue Chips... And It Recently Bounced 12%At this time, Samsung is clearly Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s greatest rival in the mobile space.

In some cases, it appears that Samsung may be outdoing Apple in terms of innovation. Do you agree that this is the case?

Here is a recent story published on CNN taking a closer look at this possibility.

Below is a brief excerpt explaining the rivalry in greater detail:

“The best example of this is the Galaxy Note, a smartphone-tablet hybrid with a giant screen. When that device first hit the United States about a year ago, critics (including me) slammed the device for being too large. It couldn’t fit comfortably in your pocket. It was really thick. And it came with a stylus, that relic of the Palm Pilot era, making the Note feel like a step backward.”

“None of that mattered. Samsung sold at least 10 million Galaxy Notes. The company came out with an updated version with an even larger screen called the Galaxy Note II a few months later and sold another 5 million (at last count), a very big achievement for a single Android device.”

While these numbers are impressive, even more impressive is the fact that Samsung was able to create a new category with its smartphone-tablet mix.

And what about how far Samsung has come with its software? Right now, its devices can do things that Apple’s cannot. Here is more information from the same CNN piece:

“On the software side of things, Samsung is taking advantage of its mobile devices’ processing power to layer premium features on top of Android, such as the ability to run two apps at once in a split screen or separate window. Samsung’s best tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, can do all that plus take advantage of a stylus so you can draw and take notes on the screen.”

Whether or not Samsung is beating Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in terms of innovation is a matter of opinion. That being said, there are many reasons to believe this to be the case. What are your thoughts on this?
