While the company itself is keeping quiet, rumors are beginning to circulate that a Retina display iPad mini will be made available in the third quarter of 2013.

AppleInsider did a nice job breaking down the information even further, sharing some of the more important details pertaining to the potential release to come. Here are a few details to keep an eye on:

“In all, Apple is reportedly planning to ship 55 million iPad mini units in calendar 2013.”

“Monday’s report also indicated that Apple is planning to debut a new fifth-generation iPad with a redesigned aluminum alloy metal chassis. It’s expected that the new hardware will feature the a design similar to the iPad mini, with a thinner bezel and lighter frame.”

In addition to the rumor that a Retina iPad mini is on its way, combined with this shipping data, the article goes on to note that not everybody is buying into this. Here is some more information:

“If Apple does launch new iPads in the third quarter of this year, it would be later than was recently predicted by iMore, which has a strong track record in forecasting the company’s future product plans. Rene Ritchie also claimed earlier this month that Apple’s next iPad mini isn’t likely to sport a high-resolution Retina display.”

At this point, it is hard to know what is true and what is not. Some people want to see a Retina iPad mini so bad that they will believe pretty much any rumor that is thrown out there. Others, however, won’t believe anything until it comes from the mouth of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
