Is Apple Inc. (AAPL) In Danger of Being Too Slow to Market?

When it comes to the potential for an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iWatch, there is no shortage of rumors (check out this one). While nobody knows for sure what Cupertino is thinking and whether or not it will push a smart watch in the near future, it is safe to say that consumers and investors are keeping one eye on this. Many are hoping Apple is able to beat the competition to the punch, subsequently taking charge of this market from day one.

Apple Inc. (AAPL)This is a dream that may be coming to a quick end. According to a recent report by Patently Apple, the company’s biggest competitor in the smartphone space, Samsung, is prepared to push a smart watch to the public within the next couple of months. Here is more from the story:

“This trend is now set to continue with Samsung planning to release their new Galaxy Note III on September 6 alongside the debut of their new smart watch which is noted as a being a “Samsung Gear” smartphone accessory. While it’s likely to be another cheesy product, the goal of course is to simply beat Apple to market with a smart watch so that Apple will look like a follower rather than a leader when and if they release such a product in the future. Yet Samsung mistakenly equates beating Apple to market with something and actually delivering real innovation.”

This is an interesting take on what Samsung is trying to do. It is easy to see both sides of the story.

On one hand, there is no denying the potential for success in the smart watch market. Wearable devices are going to pick up steam in the years to come, ensuring that tech companies will be fighting it out for the top spot.

On the other side of things, you have to wonder if Samsung is doing this purely to beat Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to market. In other words, will the company really come up with something that is a game changer? Or will it simply come up with anything as long as it is first?

Only time will tell if Samsung has made a good move and how this impacts Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). At this point, we don’t even know if Cupertino is going to enter this market (signs are pointing in this direction, however).

The big story here is that Samsung is trying to bring a smart watch to market before Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Hang on, it is going to be a bumpy ride!
