Google Glass: Google Glass to be Manufactured in United States?

Larry PageGoogle Glass: In today’s day and age, a growing number of companies, especially those in the tech industry, turn to overseas manufacturers as a means of saving money. While this is becoming more and more common, it is nice to know that some companies are attempting to buck the trend when possible. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), for example, has plans to manufacture its Glass device in the United States.

Google is one of the hedge fund industry’s most popular stock picks, and it’s always important to pay attention to the smart money (see just why here).

Mashable, along with a report by the Financial Times, has said that Google Glass will be built “at a facility in Santa Clara, California.”

This is a big change to what many companies are doing, and it makes one wonder if the search engine giant has more plans of doing the same in the future.

Of course, it is important to note that Hon Hai Precision Industry out of Taiwan will produce Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Glass. If this company sounds familiar, it is because they are the one that builds the Apple iPhone.

As we noted yesterday, Google has found some Glass guinea pigs to give the product a try before it is released to the public for purchase.

While this is a big move for the company, Mashable notes that it is not the first time they have decided to manufacture a product in the United States. Here is more from the article:

“If the report is true, this would not the first time Google has decided to have a gadget built in the U.S.; its ill-fated streaming media player, the Nexus Q, was meant to be built in the U.S.”

Right now, this is just a rumor but it is being reported by some legit news outlets. It will be interesting to see if Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) decides to move forward with this idea. Only time will tell.
