Facebook and Netflix: Facebook and Netflix Finally make a Connection

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)Facebook and Netflix: For quite some time, people have been wondering if Netflix and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) will be able to form some sort of partnership. According to the official Netflix blog, it appears that the finer details have been ironed out.

Hedge funds, on the whole, were very bullish on Facebook last quarter. The total size of the funds we track that were invested in the company grew by nearly 40% from Q3; that’s a huge spike (see why it’s always important to pay attention to the smart money).

Here is the blog post: Introducing Netflix Social

In short, the company wants you to realize that “movies and TV shows are better with friends.”

Here is a brief excerpt from the blog post:

“Starting today, Netflix members in the U.S. can share their favorite shows and movies on Netflix with friends by connecting to Facebook and agreeing to share.”

“By default, sharing will only happen on Netflix. You’ll see what titles your friends have watched in a new “Watched by your friends” row and what they have rated four or five stars in a new “Friends’ Favorites” row. Your friends will also be able to see what you watch and rate highly.”

As you can see, this is clearly one of the best ways for Netflix to get involved in the social space. And of course, there is no better partner for doing so than Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). With this feature, people will be able to share information with others while also learning more about the titles their friends have viewed.

Of course, the user is still in total control:

“You are in control of what gets shared. You can choose not to share a specific title by clicking the “Don’t Share This” button in the player. You can also visit your “Social Settings” in “Your Account” on Netflix.com to turn on additional sharing to Facebook or stop sharing altogether.”

This is a feature that many have been craving for a long time. While Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is sure to benefit, it is Netflix that has the most to gain.

What are your thoughts on this feature? Will you be using it in the near future?
