Bethesda-based defense giant Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) ranked ninth on the Environmental Protection Agency’s list—released Wednesday—of organizations using renewable energy, according to an EPA news release. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), whose Mid-Atlantic District headquarters is in Chevy Chase, came in at No. 2 on the list of the nation’s top 50 organizations “that are choosing to use electricity from clean, renewable sources.” Microsoft “moved into second place by increasing its green power use to more than 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually,” the news release added.

Northrop Grumman’s Astro Aerospace receives follow-on order for 48 more JIB antennas for GPS III satellites (YourIndustryNews)
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will provide 48 more self-deploying, monopole JIB antennas for Global Positioning System (GPS III) satellites under a follow-on contract from Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT). The work will be carried out by Astro Aerospace, a strategic business unit of Northrop Grumman. With an adaptable design configuration, JIBs can be tailored to specific applications; they are available in monopole diameters from ½ inch to 1 3/8 inches and any length up to 25 feet. Each antenna stows in a compact 4-inch by 4-inch by 2.5-inch canister.

Lockheed to Build OTEC Plant in China (Nasdaq)
Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) has entered into an agreement with Reignwood Group to develop an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) pilot power plant located off the coast of southern China. Per the agreement, this offshore plant with an electric generation capacity of 10 megawatt (MW) will be designed by Lockheed Martin. The plant will supply all the power required by a green resort being built by Reignwood Group. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion is a process that can produce electricity by using the temperature difference between deep cold ocean water and warm tropical surface waters. This technology is best suited for island and coastal communities where energy transportation costs for other sources of power are very expensive.

Northrop Grumman, ADASI and AUVSI Support 2013 Innovation Challenge Flying Competition (AzoRobotics)

More self-deploying, monopole JIB antennas for U.S. GPS satellites will be produced by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) under a Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) follow-on award. The number of systems from Northrop’s Astro Aerospace business unit number 48 and will be used on GPS-III satellites under development by Lockheed. The on-orbit U.S. GPS satellite constellation of more than 24 spacecraft is operated by the U.S. Air Force. “The GPS constellation is a key U.S. asset used by millions around the globe every day,” said Astro Aerospace General Manager John Alvarez. “The antennas we supply are designed to help Lockheed Martin and the Air Force meet affordability and mission assurance goals for the next generation of GPS satellites.
