Chubb and Travelers: Comparing Dividend Growth in the Insurance Sector

According to a report by NAIC, underwriting income across the U.S. Property & Casualty (P&C) industry jumped by more than $40 billion from the previous year. Strong premium growth and lower incurred losses drove much of the improvement. Catastrophe losses also fell meaningfully, particularly in the second half of the year.

This backdrop remains favorable for companies such as Chubb Limited (NYSE:CB) and The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV), although the industry is starting to face a tougher stretch. Pricing is moderating, competition is picking up, and catastrophe and liability risks remain elevated. Swiss Re expects U.S. P&C returns to normalize as some of the benefits from firm pricing and higher investment income fade. Both Chubb and Travelers continue to stand out as established dividend-growth stocks. Their appeal goes beyond the current yield. Both companies have spent years raising their payouts while maintaining strong capital positions and generating substantial cash from their insurance operations.

Chubb: Decades of Dividend Growth Backed by Cash Generation

Chubb Limited (NYSE:CB) recently declared a quarterly dividend of $1.02 per share, keeping the payout unchanged after a 5.2% increase earlier in 2026. That increase brought the annual dividend to $4.08 per share and marked the company’s 33rd consecutive year of dividend growth.

That history matters for income investors. Chubb Limited (NYSE:CB) has raised its dividend through different insurance cycles, including periods of severe catastrophe losses, economic weakness, and changing interest rates. Its cash flow also helps explain how the company has maintained that record. Chubb generated $12.8 billion in operating cash flow in 2025, compared with $16.2 billion in 2024 and $12.6 billion in 2023. It paid $1.5 billion in common-stock dividends during the year.

Chubb Limited (NYSE:CB) generated more than eight times the cash needed to cover its 2025 common dividends. That gives the company plenty of room to return capital to shareholders while investing in the business and maintaining its financial strength.

Chubb is also benefiting from the higher investment-income environment across the industry. Its large investment portfolio has generated stronger investment income in recent years, giving the company another source of earnings alongside underwriting.

Travelers: Stronger Recent Dividend Growth and Rising Cash Flow

The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) has a similar story, but its recent dividend growth has been stronger. The insurer currently pays $1.25 per share each quarter, or $5.00 annually, after raising the dividend 13.6% earlier in 2026.

Travelers has increased its dividend for 21 consecutive years. That is shorter than Chubb’s 33-year streak, but it still gives the company more than two decades of uninterrupted dividend growth. Travelers’ cash-flow trend is also encouraging. Operating cash flow rose to $10.6 billion in 2025 from $9.1 billion in 2024 and $7.7 billion in 2023. That steady increase gives the dividend some added support.

The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) generated considerably more operating cash than it needed to fund its common dividend. That leaves management room to keep raising the payout while investing in the business and returning additional capital through share repurchases.

The company’s latest results support that picture. In the second quarter of 2026, The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) reported a sharp increase in profit as catastrophe losses declined and investment income increased. Net investment income rose 13.6% to $1.07 billion, while underwriting income jumped to $1.74 billion from $1.02 billion a year earlier.

That combination matters for dividend investors. Travelers is not relying on investment income alone to fund its payout. Underwriting profitability and income from its large investment portfolio both contribute to earnings and help support the dividend.

Which Dividend Looks Stronger?

The two insurers are fairly close from an income perspective, but their strengths are different. Chubb Limited (NYSE:CB) has the longer dividend-growth record. Its 33-year streak gives it the edge when it comes to consistency. The company has also shown that it can keep increasing its payout without putting too much pressure on earnings or cash flow.

The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) has been more aggressive with recent dividend increases. Its 13.6% hike in 2026 was significantly larger than Chubb’s 5.2% increase. The cash-flow trend is encouraging too, with operating cash generation rising for three consecutive years through 2025.

The broader industry backdrop still favors both companies, at least for now. U.S. P&C insurers produced strong underwriting results in 2025, and first-quarter 2026 underwriting income remained robust. Investment income also continued to support earnings.

There are still risks to consider. Insurance pricing is beginning to soften, while catastrophe losses, social inflation, and liability claims could put pressure on margins. As pricing becomes less favorable, underwriting discipline will matter even more.

Conclusion

For dividend-growth investors, both Chubb and Travelers remain attractive insurance stocks, but they offer different strengths. Chubb is the better fit for investors who place the greatest value on a long, proven dividend-growth record. Thirty-three consecutive years of increases show that the company can grow shareholder payouts through different insurance cycles. Its strong operating cash generation also gives it room to keep increasing the dividend.

The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) may appeal more to investors looking for faster recent dividend growth and improving cash generation. Its 13.6% dividend increase in 2026 was much stronger than Chubb’s, while operating cash flow has risen steadily over the past three years.

Neither stock needs a high yield to be attractive to a long-term income investor. The bigger point is the combination of durable insurance operations, strong cash generation, disciplined capital allocation, and the ability to raise dividends over time.

For investors building a portfolio around dividend growth rather than chasing the highest current yield, both Chubb and Travelers deserve consideration. Chubb has the stronger dividend-growth record, while Travelers currently has more momentum behind its dividend increases.

When Jeff Bezos said that one breakthrough technology would shape Amazon’s destiny, even Wall Street’s biggest analysts were caught off guard.

Fast forward a year and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that is already being used across Amazon to reinvent customer experiences.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative conference, Elon Musk predicted that by 2040 there would be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, with each priced between $20,000 and $25,000.

Do the math. According to Musk, this technology could be worth $250 trillion by 2040.

Put another way, that’s roughly equal to:

  • 175 Teslas
  • 107 Amazons
  • 140 Metas
  • 84 Googles
  • 65 Microsofts
  • And 55 Nvidias

And here’s the wild part — this $250 trillion wave isn’t tied to one company, but to an entire ecosystem of AI innovators set to reshape the global economy.

It’s a leap so massive, it could reshape how businesses, governments, and consumers operate worldwide.

Even if that $250 trillion figure sounds ambitious, major firms like PwC and McKinsey still see AI unlocking multi-trillion-dollar potential.

How could anything be worth that much?

The answer lies in a breakthrough so powerful it’s redefining how humanity works, learns, and creates.

And this breakthrough has already set off a frenzy among hedge funds and Wall Street’s top investors.

What most investors don’t realize is that one under-owned company holds the key to this $250 trillion revolution.

In fact, Verge argues this company’s supercheap AI technology should concern rivals.

Before I reveal the details, let’s talk about how some of the richest people on the planet are positioning themselves.

  • Bill Gates sees artificial intelligence as the “biggest technological advance in my lifetime,” more transformative than the internet or personal computer, capable of improving healthcare, education, and addressing climate change.
  • Larry Ellison — through Oracle, is spending billions on Nvidia chips and partnering with Cohere to embed generative AI across Oracle’s cloud and apps.
  • Warren Buffett — not known for tech hype — says this breakthrough could have a ‘hugely beneficial social impact.

When billionaires from Silicon Valley to Wall Street line up behind the same idea — you know it’s worth paying attention to.

Even as we admire what Tesla, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Microsoft have built, we believe an even greater opportunity lies elsewhere…

But the real story isn’t Nvidia — it’s a much smaller company quietly improving the critical technology that makes this entire revolution possible.

And judging by what I’m hearing from both Silicon Valley insiders and Wall Street veterans…

This prediction might not be bold at all:

My name is Inan Dogan. I’m the co-founder and Research Director of Insider Monkey. I have an important message for you today.

Since March 2017, my stock picks have returned 16.5% annually. Today, I’ve found an opportunity even bigger than my British American Tobacco call.

Two years ago, Wall Street wrote off British American Tobacco (BTI) as a “melting ice cube.” The stock had crashed 40% from its peak, and consensus said the business was dying.

We looked under the cover and realized they were wrong.

We alerted our subscribers, and BTI returned 90% in just 16 months.

Now if you had invested just $10,000 in BTI in June 2024, you’d be sitting on $19,000 in October 2025.

Today, we have identified a nearly identical pattern in a digital-first giant trading at $3.

While the market panics over a surface-level revenue decline, our PhD-led research shows management has actually surgically cut $100 million in waste to focus on high-margin growth.

This pattern is a hallmark of our 16.5% annual return track record. The current opportunity offers a 400% upside potential—dwarfing even our 90% BTI return.
