Boston Beer Co Inc (SAM): Tybourne Capital Management Ups Stake To 10.1%

Eashwar Krishnan‘s Tybourne Capital Management has stepped up its interest in Boston Beer Co Inc (NYSE:SAM), boosting its holding to 10.1% of the company’s common stock. According to a recently amended filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the fund currently holds 911,613 shares, up from 766,547 shares reported at the beginning of May.

A craft beer company, Boston Beer Co Inc (NYSE:SAM) has had a tough year so far due to increased competition in the industry. The craft beer industry has witnessed an explosion in recent years, as Boston Beer is currently competing with more than 4,000 local US craft brewers and the ever-changing tastes of customers. Nevertheless, the company managed to surprise Wall Street at the end of July, when it posted financial results that exceeded expectations. Second-quarter sales reached $244.8 million and Boston Beer posted a profit of $2.06 per share, topping analysts’ consensus of $239 million and $1.95 in earnings per share. The stock ended Wednesday’s trading session at $181.64 per share, down 9.4% for the year.
