Is anybody surprised at this point that PC sales continue to fall off on what appears to be a quarterly basis? We have covered many PC related sales stories over the past couple of months, including this one, and will continue to do the same well into the future. While this market may continue its decline, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one company that may be able to benefit from it in the long run.

As more and more people turn away from PCs, a growing number of individuals begin to focus on tablets and smartphones. And when it comes to the tablet market, there is nobody bigger than Apple. Its iPad lineup, complete with the mini, is the best of the best. It is the cream of the crop.

Just how bad off is the PC market? Here is a study from IDC, touching on where things stand right now:

“The PC market continued to suffer slow shipment growth in top countries across regions in May, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Monthly PC Tracker. April shipment growth had improved slightly from March in Latin America and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), but May growth has come in slower than April for each of these markets except India and UK.”

As you can see, there is growth in some parts of the world but this is few and far between. For the most part, PC shipments are on the decline and there is no reason to believe this will change in the years to come.

Apple Inc. (AAPL)Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has positioned itself nicely as the company looks to continue its push in the tablet market.

Loren Loverde, Program Vice President, Worldwide PC Trackers at IDC, thinks that the market could see a slight improvement during the second half of 2013:

“We still expect an improvement in the second half of the year as more new products are launched and we get into the back-to-school and holiday seasons. But the market will likely remain cautious about the second half of 2013.”

If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) continues to dominate with its iPad lineup, the company will be able to benefit from any decline of the PC market. Of course, Cupertino is also doing big things with its iPhone.
