Apple Inc. (AAPL): Tim Cook in China, and a Smaller iPhone?

There is talk that while the human ear isn’t getting smaller, apparently Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) wants to make the cell phone smaller. Rumors have abounded that Apple developing a smaller iPhone to go along with the smaller iPad, and there are now some sources who are saying that Cupertino may very well come out with an iPhone Mini sometime in 2014. The latest insight comes from Strategic Analytics, which has reported before that an IPhone Mini would be coming out in the next three years, and apparently there is information to suggest that next year may be the time, as projections have the current iPhone market becoming saturated by that time.

The new smaller version would apparently feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen (which would make it similar to prior versions of the iPhone), though very little detail is available beyond that. With Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. as the largest smartphone maker in the world and providing a spectrum of handsets to fit various budgets, it’s possible that Apple could be needing to expand its market with a more affordable smatphone in order to compete better, especially in emerging markets like China and India.
