Apple in China: Apple – This Country Could be a Goldmine for Itself, Microsoft And Others

Apple in China: The fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is spending so much time and resources in China is no surprise. CEO Tim Cook has visited the country multiple times, and the growth potential remains large.

Along with Apple, there are companies, such as Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) that are doing the same in terms of expansion.

Of course, companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) did not grow to become industry leaders by putting all of its eggs in one basket. For this reason, they continue to look into expansion in other regions of the world including Europe and Australia among others.

But are these companies missing the boat in another market? Are they overlooking the fact that Indonesia could do big things for its PC business? Maybe, maybe not.

One thing is true, however: there are some who believe that Indonesia is a hot bed, a goldmine of sorts, for companies like Apple that are looking to hang on to a share of the PC market despite the fact that it is collapsing in many parts of the world.

Research by IDC backs up this claim, stating that despite a worldwide decline in PC shipments that Indonesia is still a growing market. How many other countries can claim the same? You probably can’t name them off the top of your head.

In a recent IDC report, the research firm cited a global decline of 13.9 percent in PC shipments.

That may hold true for the most part, but the company believes that Indonesia, while not immune to the decline, can still grow in the next few years.

Wilhendra Akmam, Research Manager at IDC Indonesia, added that “While the slowdown is a global phenomenon we have to accept as fact, it does not necessarily signal the beginning of the end for the PC market in Indonesia.”

Apple Inc. (AAPL) to be Added to Several WisdomTree ETFsBrand recognition alone would help companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) in Indonesia. That being said, there are other reasons for the growth including a “decreasing number of mini notebooks available in the market.”

As fewer people rely on these notebooks, more are turning to the use of desktops. This is somewhat of a surprise, being that other regions of the world are moving away from laptops and desktops towards tablets and smartphones.

Despite PC shipments recently posting the largest quarterly decline ever, according to IDC, Indonesia is standing out as a market with potential to grow.

Is it possible that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and other manufacturers will take a second look at this market?
