Apple A6 TSMC: Apple Breaking In New Chip Maker for iPad

Apple A6 TSMC: Remember the days when Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) relied heavily upon Samsung components? While the two companies are still working together in some capacity at the present time, it is easy to see that the tech giants will be parting ways sooner rather than later.

Channel NewsAsia Singapore has reported that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is beginning to consider other options, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) getting first crack at the new business.

Here is a brief excerpt of the article, explaining the new arrangement between Apple and TSMC:

The Taiwanese company has been contracted to manufacture the A6X chip, which drives Apple’s iPad4 tablet, with trial production set for the first quarter of this year, Taiwan’s Commercial Times reported.

As you can see, Apple is wasting no time moving away from its relationship with Samsung in 2013.

What is the deal with Samsung? Why has Apple decided to move away from this working arrangement after so many years?

First and foremost, Samsung is among Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s main competition in the smartphone market. Does it really make sense for the two companies to be in business together?

Along with this, Apple and Samsung have been fighting in court for quite some time. With so much animosity building between the two tech giants, it only makes sense for them to part ways.

Here is a link to the latest update on the legal battle.

While TSMC production is going to pickup during the first quarter, there are still concerns as noted in this article published by SlashGear:

Although Apple has been sniffing around TSMC production for some time now, a number of factors have apparently delayed any significant plans to shift to the company from Samsung. TSMC’s manufacturing capability has been unproved, for instance, and there were doubts that the firm could in fact supply Apple with sufficient chips to meet iPad and iPhone demand.

As Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) continues to distance itself from Samsung, you can expect similar stories in the future. And of course, we will keep you updated.
