List of Apple Patents: Apple Awarded a Large Number of Patents in 2012

List of Apple Patents: When it comes to filing patent applications, it is easy to see that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going all out. For example, we brought you this story yesterday – Apple Inc. Cares About the Safety of iPhone Users – that pertains to a potential safety app.

According to a recent New York Times article, 2012 was a big year for the tech giant in terms of patents:

“Last year, Apple was awarded 1,236 patents, or 68 percent more than in 2011. With that performance, Apple’s rank jumped to 22nd, up from 39th in 2011.”

Note: although the New York Times article has reported that Apple was awarded 1,236 patents, the official source from the IFI Claims website shows 1,136 grants.

If you don’t think this is a big deal, take a closer look at some of the companies that finished behind Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the number of patents granted: Sharp, Research in Motion, Honda, Cisco, Texas Instruments, and AT&T – just to name a few.

As you can see by the numbers alone, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) made huge strides in this area in 2012. As noted above, the company was ranked 39th in 2011 with 676 awarded patents. This number skyrocketed to 1,136 patents, which is almost twice as many as the previous year.
