Today, we are going to dive into the finer details surrounding the “app war” between the two tech titans.
With the help of Betty Liu of Bloomberg Television, we will learn more about Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) app sales from their respective stores.
Here is a link to the full video of Liu discussing this industry battle, which is really beginning to heat up.
Below is a recap of what Liu had to say in this morning’s “This Versus That” video segment:
“In This Versus That this morning, we have got the latest on the app wars and the showdown between two of the world’s biggest tech rivals.”
This sets the stage for the information that Liu discusses in great detail. She goes on to add the following:
“This is Apple. Five years ago it unveiled its app store for its first ever iPhone, sparked a revolution in the smartphone business as Apple surged ahead of rivals in innovation.”
“That is Google. It has now caught up with Apple with its own app business, threatening one of the iPhone’s main selling points. In the fourth quarter, sales of apps from Google’s online store doubled vs. a 20 percent rise for Apple according to market researcher App Annie.”
Liu finished the segment with the following information:
“Three out of every four handsets sold in the $260 billion market are now powered by Google’s Android operating system. So certainly catching up and surpassing.”
What is your take on this information from Liu regarding Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) app sales? Should Apple be worried that Google is making such a strong push in the space it invented?
