An Exclusive Interview with Instagram Star AJ Applegate

Instagram has become the social media platform of choice for millions of people. As it’s grown, so too has the popularity of its biggest stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kim Kardashian. Instagram gives followers an intimate and close-up insight into the lives of their idols and has made celebrities out of people from all walks of life.

AJ Applegate has a huge following on Instagram, and as someone who made their name in the adult entertainment industry, she relishes the opportunity the platform has given her to communicate directly with her fans. We caught up with AJ to find out a little more about the women behind the public persona.

AJ Applegate

Q: It’s great to meet you AJ. First off, I’d like to ask, how has Instagram helped you professionally?

A: Hi, nice to meet you too. Social media, particularly Instagram has been a god-send. In terms of promoting your brand it’s priceless. I get to communicate one-to-one with my fans and it really helps gain access to a wider audience. The adult entertainment industry has really turned a corner in recent times. It’s no longer seen as the poor or seedy relation of other forms of entertainment. People are no longer ashamed to be seen involved or enjoying what is a very dynamic and booming industry, and I think to a certain degree, social media has helped with the legitimization of what I do.

Q: You’re on record as saying you began watching porn at a very age. That’s quite a brave thing to admit?

A: Maybe, but I grew up in a small town, the daughter of divorced parents, and I always felt I lived in a bit of a bubble. So watching porn was a kind of escapism. I didn’t feel those women were being exploited. I thought they were glamorous and confident ladies who were lucky enough to express their sexuality. I instinctively knew it’s what I wanted to do with my life.

Q: It’s refreshing to hear you say that. Even now, despite the big bucks involved, a lot of people assume people get into porn out of desperation?

A: You kidding me? I now direct my own movies and run my own website and merch line. The adult entertainment industry has been nothing but good for me.  I’m living the life of my dreams. Check out my Instagram page if you don’t believe me (laughs).
