5 Most Advanced Countries in Computer Technology

In this piece, we will take a look at the 5 most advanced countries in computer technology. If you want to delve into computer technology’s history and a more extensive list, go to 13 Most Advanced Countries in Computer Technology.

5. Taiwan

Number of Computer Technology Patents Between 2000 and 2020:  27,234

The Republic of China, also known as Taiwan, is a 36,197 sq. kilometers sized island region that dominates the world of microprocessor chips. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) became the world leader in manufacturing chips after surpassing Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) in 2017. Today, it is responsible for producing 90% of the world’s semiconductors that are used in quantum computing applications and artificial intelligence (AI).

But TSMC is not the only global company in the country. Taiwan is also home to some top-ranked tech companies like Mediatek (TPE: 2454), Foxconn (TPE: 2354), and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (OTCMKTS: HNHPF). Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. is also Apple’s primary manufacturing partner. It is ranked number 5th on the list of most advanced countries in computer technology, with 27,234 patents to its name between 2000 and 2020.

4. People’s Republic of China (PRC)

Number of Computer Technology Patents Between 2000 and 2020:  41,895

People’s Republic of China, more commonly known as China, has the second largest population in the world, housing 1.409 billion people. China also has the world’s largest economy, with its GDP being $27.02 trillion in terms of purchasing power parity. The country’s rise in the technological sector has been notably fast in the last decade, especially in areas like high-tech manufacturing. Between 2000 and 2020, Chinese investors saw 42,895 patents granted to their name.

Currently, China has different plans to grow its technological infrastructure and become a self-sufficient nation. Their main areas of focus are AI and semiconductor fabrication, with China being the largest AI research producer in the world today.

3. South Korea

Number of Computer Technology Patents Between 2000 and 2020:  47,232

South Korea, an East Asian country, is another one of the most technologically advanced countries on the list. It is also a leading country in the computer technology, biotechnology, consumer technology, and semiconductor manufacturing fields. One of the primary reasons behind South Korea’s technological advancement is the country’s education system. With a 97.97% literacy rate, South Koreans are some of the most educated people in the world. With the South Korean ICT industry being so advanced, it’s no surprise that the country is also home to tech giants like Samsung and LG. Between 2000 and 2020, South Korea secured 47,232 patents in computer technology.

2. United States of America

Number of Computer Technology Patents Between 2000 and 2020:  92,793

On number two, we have the United States of America. The U.S. has always been a leading country in Computer Technology, thanks to its laundry list of high technology companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA), and QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM). U.S. companies are also leaders in the field of quantum computing, with Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and IBM, having more than two thousand patents to their name – twice as many as China’s applications for the same area. America won 92,793 computer technology patents between 2000 and 2020.

1. Japan

Number of Computer Technology Patents Between 2000 and 2020:  103,658

Japan is an Asian Island country with the world’s fourth-largest economy with a GDP of US$4.2 trillion, and the 12th-largest population. It is a world leader in many domains, and technology — especially computer technology — is one of them. According to Data Pandas report, Japan had a Score of 80, which means it has a strong digital economy, substantial funding for venture capital, highly-developed technological infrastructure, and robust intellectual properties.

When it comes to the computer tech industry, Japan holds a 10% share of the global market, with tech giants like Hitachi Ltd. (TYO: 6501), Toshiba Corporation, and Kyocera Corporation (TYO: 6971) being the leaders nationally and internationally. While the global tech market is getting more competitive, Japan continues to maintain its stronghold in the computer technology domain. Between 2000 and 2020 alone, the country won 103,568 patents in the field— the most patents secured by any country in computer technology.

The $250 Trillion AI Hype is Real. A few years from now, you’ll probably wish you’d bought this stock.

When Jeff Bezos said that one breakthrough technology would shape Amazon’s destiny, even Wall Street’s biggest analysts were caught off guard.

Fast forward a year and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that is already being used across Amazon to reinvent customer experiences.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative conference, Elon Musk predicted that by 2040 there would be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, with each priced between $20,000 and $25,000.

Do the math. According to Musk, this technology could be worth $250 trillion by 2040.

Put another way, that’s roughly equal to:

  • 175 Teslas
  • 107 Amazons
  • 140 Metas
  • 84 Googles
  • 65 Microsofts
  • And 55 Nvidias

And here’s the wild part — this $250 trillion wave isn’t tied to one company, but to an entire ecosystem of AI innovators set to reshape the global economy.

It’s a leap so massive, it could reshape how businesses, governments, and consumers operate worldwide.

Even if that $250 trillion figure sounds ambitious, major firms like PwC and McKinsey still see AI unlocking multi-trillion-dollar potential.

How could anything be worth that much?

The answer lies in a breakthrough so powerful it’s redefining how humanity works, learns, and creates.

And this breakthrough has already set off a frenzy among hedge funds and Wall Street’s top investors.

What most investors don’t realize is that one under-owned company holds the key to this $250 trillion revolution.

In fact, Verge argues this company’s supercheap AI technology should concern rivals.

Before I reveal the details, let’s talk about how some of the richest people on the planet are positioning themselves.

  • Bill Gates sees artificial intelligence as the “biggest technological advance in my lifetime,” more transformative than the internet or personal computer, capable of improving healthcare, education, and addressing climate change.
  • Larry Ellison — through Oracle, is spending billions on Nvidia chips and partnering with Cohere to embed generative AI across Oracle’s cloud and apps.
  • Warren Buffett — not known for tech hype — says this breakthrough could have a ‘hugely beneficial social impact.

When billionaires from Silicon Valley to Wall Street line up behind the same idea — you know it’s worth paying attention to.

Even as we admire what Tesla, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Microsoft have built, we believe an even greater opportunity lies elsewhere…

But the real story isn’t Nvidia — it’s a much smaller company quietly improving the critical technology that makes this entire revolution possible.

And judging by what I’m hearing from both Silicon Valley insiders and Wall Street veterans…

This prediction might not be bold at all:

A few years from now, you’ll wish you’d owned this stock.

My name is Inan Dogan. I’m the co-founder and Research Director of Insider Monkey. I have an important message for you today.

Since March 2017, my stock picks have returned 16.5% annually. Today, I’ve found an opportunity even bigger than my British American Tobacco call.

Two years ago, Wall Street wrote off British American Tobacco (BTI) as a “melting ice cube.” The stock had crashed 40% from its peak, and consensus said the business was dying.

We looked under the cover and realized they were wrong.

We alerted our subscribers, and BTI returned 90% in just 16 months.

Now if you had invested just $10,000 in BTI in June 2024, you’d be sitting on $19,000 in October 2025.

Today, we have identified a nearly identical pattern in a digital-first giant trading at $3.

While the market panics over a surface-level revenue decline, our PhD-led research shows management has actually surgically cut $100 million in waste to focus on high-margin growth.

This pattern is a hallmark of our 16.5% annual return track record. The current opportunity offers a 400% upside potential—dwarfing even our 90% BTI return.
