China is one of the biggest producers of agricultural products in the world. Its agriculture industry contributed a significant 7% to its GDP in 2021. It’s also the most populous country in the world, with a population of 1.4 billion people as of 2021.

The country has to feed over a billion people in the face of rising agricultural constraints, which has led it to invest considerably in agricultural technologies due in part, to the country’s vision to be self-sufficient in food security.

Its smart-agriculture market has rapidly grown from $14 billion in 2015 to $27 billion in 2020, as per figures from Statista, leading to emergence of agritech startups like FJ Dynamics, an autonomous systems manufacturer for multiple industries including agriculture.

However, it is worth mentioning that very few startups in the Chinese agritech ecosystem are trying to solve agricultural unsustainability. Most are focused on using technology for efficiency and business scaling.
