5. The Terex/Bucyrus RH400

The Terex or Bucyrus RH400 is another mining excavator on our list. Based on its operating weight, it is ranked as one of the largest in its category. Originally launched by Terex (NYSE:TEX) in Germany, the machine was acquired by Bucyrus as part of Terex’s mining equipment division in 2010.

The excavator is a front-shovel weighing about 889t. Its undercarriage is 8.6m in width while the crawler is 10.98m long. The machine can carry 45 m³ of rock in its shovel.

4. Dodge Power Wagon

Another entry commissioned by Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. The monstrous pick up truck is a giant replica of the classic Dodge Power Wagon, manufactured by Chrysler (NYSE:FCAU) in the 1950s. It weighs more than 50 tons and is roughly eight times the side of the original vehicle. But that is not the only thing that makes it stand out; the vehicle features an entire apartment on the inside. From a living room to a tailgate terrace, this vehicle is a contender for the fanciest mobile home in the world.

3. Prelude FLNG

The Perlude FLNG is a joint venture from a partnership between Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS), KOGAS and Inpex. It is the first ever floating liquefied natural gas project. The machine was built to get to the natural gas fields in the sea which were hard to access before.

It is 488 m in length and 74 m in width. It is considered to be the world’s largest floating offshore facility.

2. Antonov an-225 Mriya

This 1980 Soviet Era plane was designed by the USSR’s Antonov Design Bureau for strategic military airlifts. The Mriya was 83,82 m long, weighing 285 tons with a wingspan of 88,39 m. It has a cargo space which can hold about 50 cars. It is considered to be one of the largest and one of the heaviest planes on earth.

1. Bagger 288

Topping the list of the 5 largest vehicles in the world is the Bagger 288, built by Krupp, a German company, is a bucket wheel excavator with a height of 94,79 meters. It is 214,88 meters long and weighs about 412769 tons. It superseded NASA’s Crawler Transporter’s title for largest land vehicle. According to Khplant, it excavates about 240,000 tons of coal a day in the Hambach strip min in Germany.

The Bagger 288 is estimated to be valued around $100 million when it was first introduced. The number will go much higher if you factor in the inflation today. It was built with the objective of lessening the burden in coal mining.
