One of the few private companies in our list of the biggest gas station chains in the U.S., Citgo is an American company which is majority-owned by PDVSA, which itself is a state-owned company by the Venezuelan government. However, because of United States sanctions imposed on Venezuela, they can no longer benefit economically from Citgo. The company employs over 3,000 people and recorded revenues in excess of $24 billion in 2021 alone.

Citgo operates the highest number of gas stations in Georgia, which has close to nearly a tenth of all stations operated by the company. It operates in 31 states in the United States.
