A major turning point in Somalia’s growth was reached in December 2023 when it attained the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative Completion Point. While real GDP per capita averaged -0.8% year, real GDP growth has been weak and erratic, averaging just 2% annually between 2019 and 2023. As a result it will be one of the 30 Least Developed Countries in Africa in 2024.
