4- South Korea - Average suicide rate per 100,000: 28.6
In a reflection of the pandemic’s long-term effects, South Korea’s suicide rate increased slightly last year and remained the highest in the industrialized world. In 2019, there were 28.6 suicides per 100,000 persons in South Korea.
Due to poverty and isolation, elderly persons in South Korea continue to have the highest suicide death rate, although the number of young suicide deaths is rising.
