Intel Internet TV

While the company may be recognized solely for its chips and processors, Intel recently revealed that a new TV service is on its way. The service features streaming similar to Netflix, but will also feature content from cable television. This upcoming internet-based service will also be able to stream content on mobile devices. This decision to grow into the television segment might not get the best feedback due to several reasons, such as pricing and internet bandwidth requirements, although this might prove successful in the future if TV manufacturers start using next-generation Intel chips in television sets.

Bottom line

It finally comes down to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where Intel will be showcasing its newest tablets, smartphones and ultrabooks. Windows 8 has the potential to be successful, and growth would definitely help Intel continue to dominate in the Windows market. However, Android is still the fastest growing operating system, and if Intel can survive against Qualcomm and ARM, then the company will have chances to further grow in this particular area. Currently Intel has partnered with relatively smaller companies like Motorola and Acer in the smartphones market.  However, it if does survive against competitors, then a future partnership with giants like Samsung or Sony would be quite appealing.

Qualcomm has dominated in the Android market, primarily because of its LTE 4G connectivity feature. Intel’s late entry in this segment left many wondering on whether the company can regain its dominant image. The reception of Intel’s latest Atom processors and upcoming devices will be the crucial factor in determining the company’s future going forward.
