Private equity is a booming sector of the economy and executives who run these types of companies are some of the most powerful people in the world. Following, we would like to present you with a list we have compiled of the top private equity executives in the year 2013, based on the Top Dealmakers list issued earlier this year by Forbes Magazine.

The executives were ranked according to their performance over the past 12 months. More specifically, we have taken into account the firm’s exits, or the amount of money made through making equities public, selling companies, or paying dividends.

No. 9: Raymond Svider


Ninth on our list of top private equity executives, the former banker joined his private equity firm, BC Partners, in 1992. Since then, he has closed countless successful deals, some of the most recent including Springer and Hamilton Sunstrand.

No. 8: Stephen Schwarman

Eighth on our list of top private equity executives, Stephen Schwarman is a legend in the world of private equity. He cofounded his firm, Blackstone, back in 1985 and he currently boasts private equity investments worth over $53 billion. More recently, Schwarzman has moved his company into the real estate niche.

No. 7: David  Leuschen

Co-founder of Riverstone Holdings, this former banker made a name for himself as a private equity executive. His most recent successful exits include Three Rivers Operating and Dynamic Offshore.

No. 6: Pierre Lapeyre


Sixth on our list of top private equity executives, this former banker left Goldman Sachs with the intent of starting his own venture. It is safe to assume that he has been more than successful with his Riverstone Holdings. Lapeyre has closed numerous deals over the years and one of his most recent involves a new fund worth a whopping $7.7 billion.

No. 5: Donald Mackenzie


Despite recent financial scandals, Donald Mackenzie is still going strong. As cofounder of CVC Capital Partners (formerly known as Citicorp), this executive has made his investors very happy by earning them billions of dollars over the years.

No. 4: George Roberts


Fourth on our list of top private equity executives, George Roberts, cofounder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts alongside his cousin, has amassed a net worth amounting to $3.7 billion. He is currently pushing to have his firm involved in mutual funds and retail investments.

No. 3: Henry Kravis


Cofounder of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Henry Kravis took his firm public in 2010. He still maintains an active role in the investment management department and he currently holds a position in the firm worth $1.7 billion.

No. 2: Charles R. Kaye


No. 2 on our collection of top private equity executives, Co-president of Warburg Pincus, Charles R. Kaye became involved with the equity firm straight out of college. Apart from taking a lead position in the decisions that have made Warburg successful, Kaye is also responsible for establishing the Asia operations back in the 1990s.

No. 1: Joseph Landy


Joseph Landy joined Warburg Pincus back in 1985 and he’s still going strong. Co-president since 2002, Landy has a done a wonderful job of guiding his firm. He made a whopping $8.7 billion earlier this year when he sold Bausch & Lomb, a company he had previously acquired in 2007 for half that amount.
