Top 5 Most Influential Teens in 2013

The most influential teens in 2013 prove the ability to enchant, attract, and influence the lives of others has little thing to do with age. Though nowadays teens mostly make their headlines due to reckless behavior or poor judgment, some teens out there have accomplished more in their lifetime than most of us ever will.

Based on a list of the most influential teens in 2013, released earlier this year by Time,  we would like to present you with the countdown we have compiled of the most visibly impressive 5 teens of the past 12 months.

Curious to see which teens have made waves this year and for what reasons? Let’s take a look at the countdown of the most influential teens in 2013.

No. 5: Malala Yousafzai, 16

Last year, Malala Yousafzai, fifth on our list of the most influential teens in 2013, was the victim of an assassination attempt, which occurred on the bus she took from home to school, in Pakistan. Talibanis targeted the young girl, then 15, for her activism to improve the education of girls in the region.

Although shot in the head and neck, she survived the attack. But what is even more impressive about this teenager is that she has not ceased to support children’s education. Malala was also nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

No. 4: Lorde (Ella Yelich O’Connor), 17

If you haven’t heard the ubiquitous Royals by now you must have been living under a rock for the past months.

The voice and mastermind behind the song is music prodigy Lorde, fourth on our list of the most influential teens in 2013, a 17-year old teen from New Zealand. The young star, who signed with a record label at just 13, reached international fame virtually overnight.

No. 3: Ionut Budisteanu, 19

The 19-year old Romanian native reached international headlines when his low cost, self-driving car model took first place, and the $75,000 that came along with it, at Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s International Science and Engineering Fair.

The young scientist has now opened a door of opportunity manufacturers could take advantage of by building autonomous cars that would cost a mere $4,000. As a comparison, the self-driving car designed by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) costs a whopping $75,000.

No. 2: Hailee Steinfeld, 16

Three years ago, when Hailee Steinfeld, second on our list of the most influential teens in 2013, was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the movie True Grit; the young starlet had virtually no previous acting experience.

But Miss Steinfeld has not rested on her laurels, as she has once again made headlines this year for her role in Ender’s Game. Despite her overwhelming success and more than evident acting skills, Steinfeld remains a humble person and claims that she still considers herself to be a beginner.

No. 1: Nick D’Aloisio, 18

When you become a millionaire over night while you’re still in your teens, you’re bound to be doing something right. Whiz Kid D’Aloisio rose to fame and fortune when he put his programming skills to use.

The news summarizing app he designed, Summly, was bought by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) for a whopping $30 million. With his best years still ahead of him, we are curious to see what Nick D’Aloisio has in store for us next.
