The Future of Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)’s Xbox One?

The Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One is being touted as one of the top game consoles of all time. For this reason, a growing number of consumers are beginning to get excited about the release of the console during the month of November. Unfortunately, the company has run into issues in the past (check this piece out) and there are grumblings that things could be taking a turn for the worse once again.

GameSpot recently sat down with Colin Sebastian of Robert W. Baird and the information he shared on the future of the game console is not what a lot of people wanted to hear.

In short, Sebastian feels that the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One could face “initial shortages at retail.” As you can imagine, this would go a long way in slowing down the progress of the console while also angering consumers who have been waiting many months (if not longer) to make a purchase.

While Sebastian mentions the Xbox One, we don’t want to overlook the fact that he is expecting initial shortages of the Sony PS4 as well.

Although this information may not be what consumers and investors want to hear, the article goes on to discuss the fact that the console that hits the market first will be in position to enjoy some advantages. Here is more from Sebastian:

“From a timing perspective, both platforms will want to launch before Thanksgiving/Black Friday, and ideally at least a couple of weeks in advance of that in order to replenish the retail channel.

In terms of who goes first, it would certainly be ideal to launch first, and gain all of the initial attention and momentum, as console launches are really the only equivalent of a ‘red carpet’ event for the industry.”

It is possible that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may face some challenges with the Xbox One, however, this is just the opinion of one analyst. This in no way guarantees that MSFT will be dealing with shortages at retail. It is a possibility, but it is also safe to assume that Microsoft is well aware of this and is doing its part in avoiding trouble.

The Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One is coming soon. Keep an eye out for any shortages, while also paying attention to whether or not the company is able to beat the PS4 to market.
