BlackBerry Z10 Repair: Research In Motion BlackBerry Z10 Easy to Repair, says iFixit

BlackBerry Z10 Repair: When buying a smartphone, the last thing you want to think about is something going wrong. However, this is reality for many people. This is a situation that quite a few consumers face everyday. For this reason, you need to think about “repairability” before making a purchase. According to iFixit, the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry Z10 is rated high in this department.

With all this in mind, you may be wondering why the BlackBerry Z10 is so easy to repair. Along with this, you may be wondering what you can and cannot do on your own.

Before we go any further, take note that iFixit gave the BlackBerry Z10 a repairability score of 8 out of 10. With 10 being the easiest to repair, this smartphone performed quite well.

Here are a few of the many reasons why it received such a high score:

1. The battery can be replaced without any tools. Believe it or not, this is a problem that some people face with their smartphone.

2. The motherboard and display were able to be removed without too much of a challenge, being that these were held in place with just a little bit of adhesive.

3. Standard screws are used, meaning that you don’t need any special tools to take Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s BlackBerry Z10 apart.

4. Smaller components are modular, meaning that these can be replaced individually if need be. That being said, strong adhesive was used on these parts, such as the headphone jack, making removal difficult.

On the downside, the report notes that the “LCD is fused to the glass.” While this may not sound like a big deal, it can go a long way in increasing the overall cost of a repair to this part of the device.

Here is one of the most interesting quotes from the review:

“We couldn’t resist NOT removing the battery. It felt strange. So yes, we added the battery and then removed it. It was glorious.”

It is little things like this that helped the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry Z10 score high on repairability.

But how does the device compare to the competition? Since every smartphone is unique, the tear down process is never identical. However, for a point of comparison, the Z10 scored higher than the iPhone 5 which received a score of 7 out of 10.

This is a “big win” for the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry Z10.
