Remember This Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Acquisition?

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has acquired many companies in the past. Some deals have worked out while others have burnt the company for a lot of money. Of course, this isn’t going to stop them from more of the same in the future. In this piece, we are going to take a look at its acquisition of Yammer. This deal took place about a year ago, and we have talked about it here and here.

“One year ago today, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Yammer. In just 12 months, we have made tremendous progress in accelerating the adoption of enterprise social, driving innovation within the Yammer service and beginning to integrate with Office 365. Today, we are providing additional visibility into our product plans through an enterprise social roadmap update and by highlighting significant momentum over the last year.”

As you can see from this information alone, Microsoft has not simply sat around since its acquisition of Yammer. Instead, the company went all out in taking things to the next level and ensuring that the $1.2 billion cash deal was well worth it.

At this point, you may be wondering just how much progress Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has made. You are going to be surprised by some of these numbers shared in the company’s blog post:

“Users have grown by 55 percent to approximately 8 million registered seats.

User activity (as measured by messages, groups and files) has roughly doubled year over year.

Paid networks have grown over 200 percent year over year.”

The most impressive part of this entire story is that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has been able to make so much progress in a relatively short period of time. It has only been one year since Yammer was acquired, and MSFT has already been able to grow its user base by roughly 55 percent. This alone shows that the company made a good decision.

Not every Microsoft acquisition works out like this, but the Yammer deal was definitely a good one for both parties. It will be interesting to see how much progress the service makes over the next 12 months.
