Once Proud Google Inc (GOOG) Service: Not Much Life Left

We have been covering the announcement of the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Reader closure from day one. While this is something that many are disappointed in, it appears that the search engine giant has no plans of reversing its decision. Instead, they are going to forge ahead sooner rather than later.

If you have used this service in the past, you will want to stay current with what the company is saying right now.

According to a recent report by Digital Spy, Google is advising subscribers on how they can retain their data. While this may not sound like something you need to do right now, if you wait too long it may be too late.

Here is what you need to know:

“Users have until July 15 to download their subscription files via Google Takeout, after which they will be “permanently” and “irrevocably” deleted.”

Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, Google FoundersAs you can see, you have less than two weeks to gain access to your data. If you wait past this data, you are going to be out of luck. At that point, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is going to wipe the data clean and you will never be able to access it again.

Despite the act that thousands of people have signed petitions to keep the service alive and ticking, Google is not budging on its stance. They are not hearing these people out, but instead moving forward with the closure as it was originally planned.’

Here is what the company had to say in a recent statement:

“Google Reader has been discontinued. We want to thank all our loyal fans. We understand you may not agree with this decision, but we hope you’ll come to love these alternatives as much as you loved Reader.”

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is not leaving everybody out to dry. The company has noted some of the best RSS alternatives, including but not limited to NewsBlur, The Old Reader, and Feedly.

If you are one of the people who truly fell in love with Google Reader you will need to access your data within the next few days and then move onto one of the many alternatives that are out there.

This announcement by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) a couple months back was a big surprise and disappointment to many. It will not be long now until Google Reader is nothing more than a loving memory.
