Not Everyone Happy About Apple Inc. (AAPL) Store Relocation Here

A couple weeks ago, we brought you a story about the San Francisco Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Store moving from one location to the next. At the time, this appeared to be a great idea that everybody was excited about – including many higher ups within the city.

Here is some more from our piece:

Apple Inc (AAPL)“For the most part, once Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has one of its stores in place it stays there for the long haul. That being said, this is not always the case. Instead, the Cupertino based company decides to make a change for one reason or the next.

That is what we are seeing right now in San Francisco, California. Despite the fact that the Apple Store located at Stockton and Ellis streets has performed well over the years, the company felt that it was time for a change.”

The new store is slated to be moved to Union Square.

This piece is not about the big move, however. Instead, we are going to take a closer look at how some people perceive the change. You guessed right: there are people out there who are disappointed with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s decision to change locations.

For a better idea of what is going on, you don’t have to look any further than this recently published San Francisco Chronicle story.

Written by John King, a well known urban design critic, the piece takes a couple of hard hits at Apple. For example, he calls the new store “it “a box that would look at home in Anymall, U.S.A.”

Those are harsh words when talking about an Apple Store, being that the Cupertino based company is known for paying close attention to its store designs, both inside and out. This is not an area in which Apple is known for holding back.

Apple Insider took a closer look at the story, touching on a couple of things that King is not happy about:

“The all-glass storefront in Foster’s design is one of King’s bigger hangups about the location, as it will see direct sun exposure for much of the day, while the side facing Stockton Street will simply be a windowless wall.

King’s biggest complaint, though, appears to be the impact the store will have on its surroundings. The new store will significantly decrease the size of the public plaza behind it, and it will also require the removal of a popular fountain sculpture.”

The fact that the new Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Store could have a negative impact on its surroundings is something that many have considered, especially those who enjoy spending time in this part of the city.

What are your thoughts on the new store? Do you agree with King?
