Internet Explorer Upgrade: Microsoft to Release Fix for Internet Explorer Flaw

Internet Explorer Upgrade: In the past, we have discussed vulnerabilities regarding Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Internet Explorer. While these issues appear to come up from time to time, the company is typically quick to offer a solution.

CNET is reporting that Microsoft is releasing a fix for vulnerability issues related to Internet Explorer versions 6 through 8. This is good news for anybody who currently relies on one of these versions for browsing the internet.

In addition to this story on Insider Monkey, which provides information on the security flaw, CNET added the following:

“Discovered late last month, the vulnerability could allow attackers to gain control of a Windows computer running one of the older versions of IE by directing users to malicious Web sites. In response, Microsoft had suggested several workarounds and even offered a “one-click fix” designed to mitigate the problem, but those were considered temporary solutions.”

As you can see, this is a pretty big problem. Nobody wants to think about the possibility of an attacker gaining control of his or her computer.

Although Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) released several temporary solutions in the past, none of these were meant to work over the long haul.

Fortunately, the Microsoft Security Response Center is reporting that a permanent solution will be rolled out today at 10 a.m. PT.

Here is detailed information from Dustin Childs, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Group Manager:

“Today, we are providing Advance Notification to customers that at approximately 10 a.m. PST on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will release an out-of-band security update to fully address the issue described in Security Advisory 2794220. While we have still seen only a limited number of customers affected by the issue, the potential exists that more customers could be affected in the future.  The bulletin has a severity rating of Critical, and it addresses CVE-2012-4792. Internet Explorer 9-10 are not affected by this issue and as always, we encourage customers to upgrade to the latest browser version.”

“We recommend that you install this update as soon as it is available. This update for Internet Explorer 6-8 will be made available through Windows Update and our other standard distribution channels. If you have automatic updates enabled on your PC, you won’t need to take any action.  If you applied the Fix it released in Security Advisory 2794220, you won’t need to uninstall it before applying the security update.”

It may have taken a while for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to release a security update, but it appears that this issue will finally be resolved in the next few hours.
