Is BlackBerry Ltd (BBRY) Following Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s Lead?

Would it make sense for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) and CEO Thorsten Heins to take cues from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and CEO Tim Cook? While some may so no, the obvious answer is yes.

Is BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Following Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Lead? While BlackBerry has continued to struggle over the past couple of years, Apple has taken its business to new heights. Now, with BBRY hoping to regain market share the company appears willing to do whatever it takes to make up ground.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Accessories

One thing Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been doing better than the competition for many years is offering accessories. Not only is this a great way to boost its bottom line, but it gives consumers what they are looking for.

According to a recent post by Donny Halliwell on the official BlackBerry blog, this is something the company is spending more time on.

Although there are a variety of accessories for sale, both from BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), some are much more popular than others.

This blog post in particular goes on to discuss four accessories that are picking up steam:

– Headphone

– HDMI cable

– Mini stereo speaker

– Battery charger bundle

Headphones, for example, are a big time accessory for many people. This gives BlackBerry the perfect chance to flex its muscles, thanks to its Premium Stereo Headset. It is the right choice both for beginners as well as audiophiles. Either way, this accessory can go a long way in helping BlackBerry even the playing field in the smartphone market.

BlackBerry may never be able to offer as many accessories as Apple, but that is not what the company needs to do in order to compete. What BlackBerry should be focused on is providing accessories that add value to its smartphones. In other words, give consumers another reason to consider the company during its attempt to regain market share.

The smartphone landscape is more competitive than ever before. Unfortunately for BlackBerry, it has been left in the dust.

Even though BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) is trailing Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), the company continues to forge ahead. A focus on the accessories market may be part of the bigger plan for the BBRY team.

These hedge fund managers continue to stick with BlackBerry: Prem Watsa, Douglas Dillard, John Thaler, Eric Bannasch, and Andreas Halvorsen.
