Facebook Advertising: A Big Decision for the Social Networking Giant

Facebook Advertising: There is no denying the fact that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) needs to make money with advertising as the company moves forward. This has been discussed time and time again, and there is no real question of whether or not the social networking giant will stick with this plan in the future.

There is one question that needs to be answered, however: will Facebook rely more on desktop or mobile advertising?

Mark ZuckerbergObviously, this is a question that only Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) can answer at this time. The company has all the numbers in front of its face. It knows what works, what doesn’t work, and where the best opportunity lies.

Of course, there is always going to be discussion about what Facebook should and should not be doing.

From the outside looking in, one thing is obvious: Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is going to put the ads where the users are. This is the best way for the company to make money.

It is also something that David Kirkpatrick, author of “The Facebook Effect,” weighed in on during a recent Bloomberg Television’s “Bloomberg West” segment with Emily Chang.

With Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) picking up plenty of “mobile momentum,” it will be interesting to see what the company comes up with in the near future as far as its advertising strategy is concerned. Will we see mobile advertising taking off?

Here is what Kirkpatrick had to say:

“They are going to put the ads where they think they are going to get the best reaction for the advertisers, because increasingly they are measuring that in more and more creative ways. If they can make more money putting them on desktops, they still would, but I think increasingly because usage is well over 700 million of their users are using it on mobile, that is an amazing number they revealed yesterday.”

This information alone goes a long way in showing that it probably makes the most sense for Facebook to focus its advertising strategy on mobile devices as opposed to traditional desktops.

Kirkpatrick weighed in with this, as well:

“I think it makes perfect sense that this number would be going up but nobody knew that it would go up because I have to say, a lot of the ads we are seeing in mobile, are pretty crumby. I think the signs are positive about mobile ads and Facebook.”
