Apple iPhone Carriers: Apple – Should This Mobile Carrier Thank It for Strong Sales in Q1?

Apple iPhone Carriers: There is a reason why mobile carriers are so interested in carrying the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone. In short, people want this device so it helps the carrier increase sales and revenue. In the end, it is a win-win situation for both parties.

Earlier this morning, according to a report by Mobile Marketing Watch, Verizon “reported earnings for the first fiscal quarter of 2013, indicating that income spiked 15.8% to $1.95 billion in the three-month period ending March 31st.”

When you look at those numbers, it is easy to see that Verizon had a great first quarter of 2013.

Apple Inc (AAPL)While not all of the revenue came from smart phone sales, a large chunk of it can be attributed to this. And as you can imagine, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had its hand in the success.

During Q1 2013, 7.2 million smartphones were activated on the Verizon network. If you were to guess, how many do you believe were iPhones?

Enough waiting: with four million being iPhones, this means that more than half of the activated smart phones came from Apple.

At this time, Verizon’s 4G LTE service is available in nearly 500 markets in the United States. This, coupled with the fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones continue to sell at a nice pace, has allowed the mobile carrier to enjoy a strong first quarter.

Here is what Lowell McAdam, Verizon CEO, had to say:

“Verizon is off to an excellent start in 2013. Our strategic investments in wireless, wireline and global networks have given us the platforms to sustain momentum and take advantage of growth opportunities in key markets for broadband, video and cloud services. With ongoing improvements in operating efficiency, we expect continued growth in free cash flow and earnings as we move through the year.”

Although McAdam does not talk directly about the company’s reliance on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), it goes without saying that he understands just how important the iPhone is to Verizon’s business.

With all this in mind, there is no wondering why T-Mobile finally moved to add the Apple iPhone 5 to its network this month.

Are you expecting more of the same out of Verizon in the second quarter of 2013? Do you think Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will once again help push sales and revenue?
