Apple New Patents: When it comes to patents, one thing is for sure: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has no intention of slowing down. The company is well known for patenting its technology, as well as ideas they hope to work on in the future.

One of the most interesting Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patents is entitled: On-hold call monitoring systems and methods. Anything that has to do with the company’s iPhone is well worth learning more about.
Here is what the abstract says:
“Systems and methods are provided for monitoring telephone calls that are placed on hold. The telephone calls may be between user electronic devices and call centers, such as customer service departments. In some embodiments, the electronic device can monitor an on-hold telephone call using a background process, which may free up a user interface of the electronic device for one or more non-phone-related tasks. The electronic device can monitor the telephone call for an indicator that a live operator is or will soon be present on the telephone call. Responsive to detecting the indicator, the electronic device can alert the user and allow the user to take control of the telephone call. In some embodiments, the electronic device can obtain information about the call center, such as expected on-hold wait-times, to determine whether an on-hold call should be monitored.”
Another intriguing patent is this one: Systems and methods for integrating a portable electronic device with a bicycle
Here is what it can do:
“Systems and methods are providing for interfacing an electronic device with a bicycle system. The electronic device can receive the output from sensors coupled to the bicycle and generate riding characteristics for display to the user. The electronic device can in addition receive communications from other electronic devices and provide the communications to the user. In some embodiments, the electronic device can be paired with the devices of one or more other cyclists so that the cyclists can share riding characteristics and other information. This can allow the cyclists to ride as a team and better assist each other.”
