Phil Falcone’s Best Performing Investment in 2011

It’s not a secret that Phil Falcone’s Harbinger lost 12% in 2010 and 1.2% in January. Falcone’s assets under management shrank from $26 Billion a few years ago to its current $6.4 Billion. But don’t feel too sorry for Falcone yet.

HARBINGER

The billionaire hedge fund manager has something most billionaires don’t have. According to the NY Post, Philip Falcone has 3 spots in the 200-spot waiting list for the world’s fastest private plane, the Gulfstream G650. Hollywood mogul David Geffen, Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar are among the lucky people high on the list. Unfortunately, the Gulfstream factory can only produce 50 planes each year and many ultra-rich have had to wait years in line. The Post says Warren Buffett, Ralph Lauren, and Oprah Winfrey are trying to be among the first to get this plane (see Warren Buffett‘s stock picks).

Apparently Philip Falcone no longer needs 3 planes and is planning to sell one of his spots for as much as $6 Million. This would be his best investment since shorting subprime mortgages in 2007.
