Hain Celestial (HAIN) Moves Toward a Leaner Business. Can the Turnaround Hold?

Fiscal 2026 was marked with portfolio simplification, debt reduction and free cash flow improvements for The Hain Celestial Group Inc. (NASDAQ:HAIN). The company released its fourth quarter and full year results, exhibiting sequential improvement during the fourth quarter. This entailed ongoing cost discipline measures, expansion of organic net sales within North American region, and improvement in gross and adjusted EBITDA margins.

Sequential Improvement in the Final Quarter

During the reported quarter, Hain Celestial entered into a definitive agreement to sell its International business, which would leave it focused primarily on North America if completed. The company is working with lenders to extend its December debt maturity. For the fourth quarter, its gross margin increased by 200 basis points year-over-year, clocking in at 22.5%. Similarly, the adjusted gross margin stood at 22.7%, up 230 basis points relative to the corresponding period last year.

The company showed meaningful strength in its cash flows, both for the final quarter as well as the full fiscal 2026. For the full year, Hain Celestial generated $78 million in operating cash flows, compared to $22 million in fiscal 2025. Moreover, it delivered full-year free cash flows of $58 million compared to $3 million outflow for fiscal 2025.

In terms of specific segments, North America yielded a 2% organic growth in net sales during the final quarter. This is attributed to robust trends for yogurt and meal prep. Productivity gains and reduction in SG&A expenses drove the segment’s adjusted EBITDA to $16 million for Q4, representing a 55% jump compared to Q4 fiscal 2025.

Snacks Business Divestiture Drags Down Net Sales

Divestiture of its North American snacks business resulted in weaker organic and overall net sales. Net sales for the final quarter dropped by 28% year-over-year to $263 million, along with a 2% decline in organic net sales. Organic net sales for the International segment declined by 4% during the quarter, primarily due to lower sales in meal prep and baby & kids, partially offset by growth in beverages. On full-year basis, net sales stood at $1,353 million, down 13% compared to FY25.

Despite substantial improvements, the company still incurred a net loss of $62 million during the fourth quarter. This compares to a loss of $273 million in Q4 fiscal 2025. However, on an adjusted basis, the metric worsened during the quarter with net loss figures of $4 million, compared to $2 million last year. Full-year bottom-line showed improvement, as net losses went from $531 million last year to $305 million for fiscal 2026.

Way Forward

For Hain Celestial, fiscal 2026 results point to real progress on the company’s ongoing turnaround strategy. Free cash flow improvement and debt reduction have lowered some of the company’s financial pressure, although leverage remains elevated. The unresolved December debt maturity, however, remains an important risk. The pending sale of the International business, paired with strong sequential improvement in North America including margin expansion and returning organic growth, supports the stated goal of becoming a leaner, more focused North American operator with a streamlined structure. However, completing the International sale and resolving the December debt maturity remain important conditions for the turnaround.
