Cheap Apple iPhone: Yet Another Low-Cost Apple iPhone Update

Cheap Apple iPhone: If you believe what Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge has to say, the following information pertaining to the low-cost Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone will pique your interest. Right now, the rumor is that the new smartphone will be composed largely of a plastic body along with a 4-inch display just the same as the iPhone 5.

Horwitz included the following information regarding other potential changes:

Apple Inc. (AAPL), iPhone 5Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Press Info

“The circular volume buttons of the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 will shift to elongated, pill-shaped designs closer to the iPod touch and the iPhone 3G/3GS”

“Apple’s budget housing looks closest to the iPod classic in shape, though not in materials.”

“The budget iPhone will look a lot like an iPhone 5 from the front, an iPod classic from the side, and an iPod touch 5G on the bottom — only made from plastic rather than glass or metal.”

In other words, the rumored Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to take design cues from many of the company’s most popular devices. The main difference, however, is the fact that the low-cost smartphone is going to cut corners by replacing glass or metal with plastic.

With all this talk ramping up yet again, many are beginning to wonder if a low-cost iPhone is in the cards.

The strongest argument for this is the fact that the current Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone is too expensive for most consumers in other countries.

For example, Apple is currently offering the iPhone 4 at a no-contract price of $450 in the United States. If you look at the pricing structure in other countries, the numbers become even more intimidating. The same smartphone would set you back $490 in China and $750 in Brazil with tax, according to AppleInsider.

Now for the real question: how much would a cheaper iPhone Cost?

The word cheap means something different to everybody. Even if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) decides to release a low-cost smartphone, one has to wonder where it may be priced.

The same AppleInsider article goes on to explain:

“Market watchers have predicted that Apple could sell a cheaper iPhone for around $199 without a contract subsidy. At that price point, it’s projected that Apple could attain gross margins around 30 percent.”

How do you feel about this Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumor? Do you believe it to be true?
