What Was Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk Thinking?

At this point, you are probably well aware that Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has his own way of looking at the world. He does things his way, and most of the time the end result is astonishing.

However, painkillers are sure to cloud the judgment of even the top business minds in the world. And this is exactly what happened to Musk last Friday.

Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)Within the span of just about an hour, Musk tweeted the following:

“Would love to do a pickup truck. Something w ultra low cg for sports car handling, dynamic air suspension & mega torque.”

“Had a minor operation, so am in bed in meds. Probably shouldn’t be tweeting :)”

“Was beat up pretty badly as a kid & left me w jagged septum. Harder to breathe as I got older, so time to fix.”

These tweets say quite a bit about the top dog at Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). For one, he has quite the imagination.

Imagine that: a Tesla pickup truck with sports car handling and plenty of torque to go along with it. While these details are interesting enough, don’t overlook the fact that it would be built by Tesla – which means the truck would be all electric.

Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)While this may sound like a stretch, something Musk came up with as he recovered from surgery, let’s not overlook what he said to Automotive News last month (via http://jalopnik.com):

“I have this idea for a really advanced electric truck that has the performance of a sports car but actually more towing power and more carrying capacity than a gasoline or diesel truck of comparable size. That could be really cool, and I think that would probably make sense to do that at a new plant.”

While it is easy to dismiss his tweet, due to all the pain meds, it is important to note that Musk has actually discussed this idea in the past. When doing so, we assume that he was not all hopped up on medication.

This may or may not be the next big announcement from Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), but it is simple to see that this is something Elon Musk has been thinking about quite a bit. No matter if he is being interviewed by one of the top automotive resources in the world or playing on Twitter while recovering from surgery, a truck is on his mind.

Sometimes the truth comes out when people are not in the right frame of mind. Is this what happened with Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk? Do you think a truck from this company is something we could see in the future?
