TotalEnergies Expands Renewable Portfolio with UK Solar & Battery Projects

TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) has moved to strengthen its prospects in renewable energy. On June 3, TotalEnergies announced the acquisition of 8 solar projects totaling 350 MW and 2 battery storage projects with 85 MW capacity from Low Carbon, a leading renewable energy company.

The solar projects Low Carbon is working on are in advanced stages of development and should be operational by 2028. They are expected to produce more than 350GWh/year of renewable electricity capable of powering about 100,000 households in the UK.

According to Low Carbon CEO Roy Bedlow, the solar projects should contribute to the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition once developed. The projects will reinforce the company’s record for creating high-quality renewable assets.

TotalEnergies has been in the UK for over 60 years, employing 1,800+ people. It is a major oil and gas producer, supplying 27% of the UK Continental Shelf’s gas, with 121,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in 2024. The company is growing its renewable energy efforts, with offshore wind and solar projects totaling 1.1 GW installed and 4.5 GW in development. It also owns 50% of a 1.3 GW gas turbine with EPUKI. TotalEnergies is a leading supplier of gas and electricity, provides EV charging, and sells petroleum products like lubricants, aviation fuel, and bitumen.

TotalEnergies is a leading oil and gas company operating around 27% of the UK Continental Shelf’s gas production. It also deploys an Integrated Power strategy in the UK, combining renewable power production and flexible power generation capacities.
